Mitral Valve Proplase These are gross examples of explanted mitral valve leaflets. A. This image shows the atrial and the ventricular surfaces of a leaflet segment with clear billowing or parachute deformity. Notice the elongation of some of the chordae.  B. This image shows the atrial and the ventricular surfaces of a leaflet segment with marked thicening and elongation of one of the chorda, but no evidence of fusion of the chordae. C. This image shows the atrial and the ventricular surfaces of a leaflet segment in which the chordae tendineae are irregularly thickenned and show a "beaded" appearance. D. This image shows transected valve leaflets with a gelatinous opalescent appearance of the spongiosa which is heavily infiltrated by glycosaminoglycans.
