Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy - (IX)

AV Node artery with allograft vasculopathy H&E & Movat

These low magnification micrographs show the interatrial septum, the fibrous annulus and interventricular septum of an adult heart with CAV. The left micrograph is stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The right micrograph is stained with Movat pentachrome. The artery of the AV node is in its normal location underneath the right atrial endocardium, above the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve. The AV node surrounds the artery and extends in a ventral and caudal direction (white rectangle shows the artery and part of the AV node) to eventually become the His bundle.    The AV node is highlighted by the discontinuous blue line.  A detailed microscopic view of this artery an the AV node is shown here.
