Myocardial Infarction - Acute - Age of Infarct (I)
Careful gross examination can identify infarcts, and provide a rough estimate of the time interval (age) of the infarct.
However, the age of a myocardial infarction can be determined with accuracy during the acute and healing period by light microscopic examination. Once it is healing, the time intervals represented by the lesions are more broad and consequently less accurate.
