Assist Devices - HeartMate I (II)
The image on the left is a wireframe view of the HeartMate I LVAS showing the innternal and external components of the device. There is a housing where the electromagnet, rotator cams, pushe plate and polyurethane membrane are housed. The inflow canula, cages for the valvesand outflow conduit. The image on the right shows a rendering of the the samel components of the VE-LVAS .
The top left image shows the housing of the electromacgnet the rotating plate and the cams. As the electromagment changes plarity the central rotating plate moves the cams back and forth in a semicircular motion (You can see a movie of this action here).
The cams propel the pusher plate (to right), which in turn moves the yellow polyurethan membrane (Lower left) towards the ventricular chamber formed between the polyuretane membrane and the LVAS metallic cover.;
