3D Visualization - Bjork-Shiley Valve
This image shows a Bjork-Shiley tilting-disc-type valvular prosthesis. Depending on the diameter of the ring, it can be fitted in aortic or mitral position. Usually it has a fabric coating of the metallic ring to saw it in and for tissue to grow into it and cover it with endothelium. The disk and struts do not get endothelialized. However pannus formation can extend from the fabric into the struts and interfere with the opening and closing of the valve.
A movie of the valve opening and closing cyvle is shown here.
