Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (III)
In adult patients who received a heart from a donor with atherosclerosis the coronary arterial lesions may show actual atheromatous plaques with superimposed white neointima. In this example, the coronary arteries show yellow plaque (rich in atheroma) with overlying white translucent intimal proliferation typical of CAV.
Microscopic examination of CAV and CAV with atherosclerotic shows distinctive features. The intramural coronary arteries may also show changes on gross exam or in microscopic exam.
