Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (VII)
Subendothelial inflammation of the intima is frequently observed in autopsy material due to the more extensive sampling done. This image is an example of such changes. Occasionally, vasculitis with transmural inflammation by lymphocytes and plasma cells and disruption of internal elastic membrane is present in distal coronary arteries, usually associated with acute cellular rejection in the myocardium.
Lesions in the intramural coronary arterioles can also be seen in the spectrum of CAV.
