Pericardial Tumors - Malignant - III
This hematoxylin and eosin stain shows dense fibrous stroma with malignant mesothelioma somewhat cuboidal cells with hyperchromatic nuclei. They form gland-like structures. Other patterns not shown here include papillary and sarcomatoid type growth.
This micrograph shows a panel of the mesothelioma infiltrating the epicardial adipose tissue. Characterization of the mesothelial cells shows that these are strongly positive for calretinin. Thus lung and breast adenocarcinomas can be ruled out.
